Guidelines
Your text Link, destination URL and landing page
must conform to the following content requirements:
General Content Guidelines
Yahoo! does not accept any advertising that:
- Is misleading, deceptive, false or untrue (for
example, an ad can be misleading if relevant information
is left out or if the ad implies something that’s
not true).
- Falsely states or otherwise misrepresents the
Advertiser’s affiliation with a person or
entity.
- Promotes or glorifies violence, crime, obscenity,
the use of weapons or provides instructions on
how to “get away” with crimes or unlawful
activity, including offering to sell any illegal
products on the landing page.
- Violates the intellectual property or other
proprietary rights of third parties, or promotes
such activity.
- Stereotypes, inaccurately portrays or attacks
an individual or group on the basis of age, color,
national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation
or disability.
- Is offensive, or disturbing to Yahoo!’s
users or is likely to cause outrage, general disapproval
or negative opinion within the community.
- Contains any pornographic content or may otherwise
be harmful to minors.
- Contains warranties or guarantees.
- Uses comparative or superlative phrases (i.e.,
“Best,” “Better,” “Cheapest”).
- Promises any “free” intangible
goods or services (i.e., travel packages), including
promotions for “Buy 1-Get 1 Free,”
“2-for-1 Sale,” “50% off with
purchase of Two,” etc.
- Promises any “free” tangible goods
that do not also include the material terms in
the text link. Examples of acceptable advertising
include the following: "Spend or more and receive
a free T-shirt", “Free shipping on
purchase of or more”, or “Spend and
get off your next order.”
- Makes claims about the health, safety or performance
of the product.
Specific Categories of Prohibited Advertising
Yahoo! does not accept any advertising through
Ad Central FPM that contains:
- Illegal Products, including but not
limited to:
- Obscene material or Child Pornography.
- Copyright or Trademark-Sensitive Goods
(bootlegs, CD-Rs, warez, back-up copies, demo
copies or OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
software). Any recordable media for sale must
be blank.
- Illegal Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia (cocaine,
heroin, marijuana, anablolic steroids or bongs,
including items used to manufacture controlled
substances and drug paraphernalia).
- Embargoed Goods from any country that appears
on the United States Office of Foreign Assets
Control list, including Balkans, Burma, Cuba,
Iran, Iraq, Liberia, Libya, North Korea, Syria
or Zimbabwe (i.e., Cuban cigars, Iranian rugs).
- Government IDs or Police Items (birth certificates,
driver’s licenses, law enforcement IDs,
passports, green cards, badges or sirens).
- Hacking/Surveillance/Interception/Descrambling
Equipment (access cards, viruses, password
sniffers or cable descramblers).
- Stolen Products and Items used for Theft
(lock-picking devices, vehicle master keys,
stolen art and artifacts or items with the
serial number removed).
- Regulated Products or Industries
- Adult-oriented Products or Content (films,
magazines, websites, sex toys, etc.).
- Alcoholic Beverages.
- Live Animals or Goods Made From Protected
Animal/Plant Species, noxious weeds, endangered
plant species, or live insects or pests.
- Used or rebuilt Batteries, or batteries
containing mercury.
- Body Parts and Bodily Fluids (urine, sperm,
eggs, blood or organs).
- Contests, Lotteries & Games of Chance.
- Dietary (Health) Supplements (herbs, botanicals,
vitamins, minerals, amino acids, ephedra,
ma huang, chitosan, human growth hormone (whether
natural or synthetic), comfrey or pyruvate).
- Gambling (online casinos, gambling “portals”
or online gambling educational sites that
are primarily advertising supported vehicles
for online casinos) or Gambling Items (grab
bags, lottery tickets, raffle tickets, sweepstakes,
pyramid schemes or slot machines). However,
organizations that offer casino services as
an element of their overall entertainment
offering (i.e., Las Vegas hotels) may advertise
on Ad Central provided that the advertising
is selling the advertiser’s offerings
as an entertainment destination, and not specifically
or predominantly its gambling or betting offerings.
- Warrant, Title or Deed to any property.
- Pharmaceuticals/Prescription Drugs/Medical
Devices or Online Pharmacies.
- Real Estate.
- Tobacco and Tobacco-Related Products (cigarettes,
cigarette tobacco, pipes, chew tobacco, cigars,
or stores specializing in such products).
However, advertising for “stop smoking”
products (patches, 12-step programs, etc.)
and youth smoking prevention campaigns by
tobacco companies is permitted.
- Dangerous Products including but not limited
to:
- Firearms or Ammunition including related
items such as silencers, large capacity
magazines, BB guns, tear gas or stun guns.
- Fireworks or Explosives including “safe
and sane” fireworks.
- Non-packaged Food items.
- Hazardous Substances including pesticides
or items containing hazardous substances.
- Weapons such as disguised, undetectable
or switchblade knives, martial arts weapons,
etc.
- Products and Services Not Otherwise Permitted
On Ad Central FPM
- Astrology, Psychic Services, Horoscopes
and other related products or services.
- Data-collecting advertisements, including
web bugs or pixel tags.
- Hate material (Hitler mousepads, Swastika
flags/patches/posters, KKK patches/belt
buckles/hats).
- Individual Contracts, Services and any
item that is non-transferable.
- Advertising for Loan Products that require
upfront fees or purport to offer credit
with little or no regard for a user’s
credit or collateral (i.e., “No credit?
No problem!”).
- Political, Religious or Charitable Organizations,
Issues or Causes.
- Advertising for Professional Services
(lawyers, doctors, CPAs, dentists, psychologists
and other established, recognized professionals).
- Simulated News Items / “Advertorials”
that simulate (a) Yahoo! content, or (b)
news headlines in design, tone, third person
sentence structure, or topic.
- Spam related products (spamming software,
email address collection software, etc.),
including Mailing Lists or other personal
information.
- Used Goods.
- Viral Marketing (“tell a friend”
or other marketing efforts that offer users
the opportunity to transmit a marketing message
or offer to others)
